1950 to 1959 due by Wed. for a meeting at work.

I’m in search of ideas for a theme from the 1950’s. I’ve found a Sock Hop theme, and a Rock n Roll theme. I’ve discovered bingo, word search, and charades as a few games. We may also include a raffle. Poodle skirts, blue jeans, Dior, Chanel, and Givenchy. Pony tails to flat tops or crew cuts. Men were wearing gray flannel suits? Roy Rogers, Davy Crockett, and drive-in movies. Disneyland opened along with Sharpstown Mall, or Gufgate mall. Elvis was in the house. Hula hoops, silly putty and western gear. There were some new technologies in the fifties. Television was just one of them. “Peanuts,” the comic strip, Singing in the Rain, and High Noon. Tomorrowland in Disneyland opened in 1957. Tropical fish were the most popular pets. 1950’s candy = Mars, 3musketerrs, M & M’s, Pez, Saf-T-Pops, and Whistle Pops are just a few of them. Any suggestions please help.

50's music... Buddy Holley, The Big Bopper - there are all kinds of Doo-Wop CD's available and I just got a 3 disk set of the kinds of stuff your mom and I used to play while washing and drying dishes - in the 50's. Sha-Boom. Wake Up Little Susie... You can download ringtones of sheer 50's music!

I'm old school. When I went to school and took english and other classes when I got my AA, I didn't use Google. I didn't have any search engine. I used books in a library. How outdated I am. I'm sure you got most of that stuff off of Google.

Pink paired with black were the "in" colors. Four inch wide elastic cinch belts for girls. Crinolines and full circle skirts.

The James Dean look was big and so were waxed-to-stand-up flat tops. Skinny ties for guys paired with thin, thin, narrow belts. Penny loafers (I had a pair), saddle oxfords, Bermuda shorts with knee sox, blouses with stand-up collars, circle pins, neck scarves tied in a knot around the neck, wristwatches with black spaghetti strap bands (two strips of black tubular fabric on either side of the watchface was the watchband).

There were ballet flats in all colors with half inch heels, stockings with a seam up the back, poodle haircuts for girls. Also, mid-century modern furniture: Remember Mammas' blue couch and chair?

Thank you. Yes, Buddy Holley, Wake up little Susie.

Old school. Your eight years younger than I. What does that make me? Hum.....

Thank you Rangermom. Hum. Looks like a hip hop rock n roll theme with burgers for lunch. As for clothes, not sure how Im going to pull that one off.

Thank you everyone. The information attached was very helpful. I'll post pictures of my attire once I figure out what I'm going to wear.
